[ Under the Sea ] Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Even when we’re not on assignment, we try to stay sharp by giving ourselves photographic challenges.  On a recent trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the challenge was to simply capture images that showed the beauty of this under water world.  Going in it was pretty obvious that the primary obstacle would be the glass tanks. One way to avoid the ugly reflections when taking pictures through glass is to use a Polarizing filter.  The problem with using one however is that it lets less light into the camera which is not good for low light photography indoors, especially with no tripod and moving subjects.  The better solution is to place the lens directly against the glass and avoid using a flash.  With beautiful available light and amazing colors, we attached a 24-70 f/2.8 macro lens to a Canon 1Ds Mark III and shot away.  Here are the images:
